Chart-topping artist Lewis Capaldi left his love behind in Nottingham on 27th January 2023 after playing at a sold-out Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter arrived with a bag full of jokes, stories and sarcasm. Lewis Capaldi brought the small venue to life with fans singing along to hits ‘Bruises’, and ‘Someone You Loved’ for his Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent tour, promoting his debut studio album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

RAYE Supports Lewis Capaldi at Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham

Newly independent artist RAYE was the chosen support act for the British singer. RAYE shared the story of how supporting Lewis came about, Rachel Agatha Keen, professionally known as RAYE, drunkenly dm’s Lewis Capaldi asking if she can support him on his tour, and he said yes, the rest is history. Hailing from the UK, the emerging R&B artist recently left Polydor Records in July 2021 and has been on the rise since. Leading with an intimate and selfless presence, RAYE kept the crowd engaged with her storytelling songs. The young musician performed tracks including ‘Escapism.’, ‘BED’, Poison, and ‘Flip A Switch.’. Following her set, the artist sought to connect with the crowd. Between the sets, the singer took the time to interact with fans and share intimate and touching experiences. Both acts delivered enjoyably different sets that complimented their unique performance styles.

Lewis Capaldi’s album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent projected boldly throughout the venue. Not only did the crowd get involved in singing along to the lyrics, which added a joyful atmosphere to the event, but when Capaldi struggled to perform due to his Tourette’s the crowd helped him overcome by signing louder, cheering and supporting him throughout the act. The singer confessed to feeling insecure and anxious on stage which was an admirable and heartfelt moment shared with the crowd. Lewis welcomed a fan named Rebecca onto the stage who turned out to be attending on behalf of her friend, Jacob, who passed away from cancer last year. Jacob, intending to see Lewis Capaldi had Lewis the next song, Before, You, Go dedicated to Jacob.

All In all, it was a pleasantly hilarious (due to his jokes and stories) performance. The rescheduled show, which was scheduled to tour throughout the Covid-19 pandemic was one not to miss. Both acts, Lewis Capaldi and RAYE pulled off a night to remember; one that’ll likely stick with the love and laughter of the local Nottingham audience.

Lewis Capaldi will continue his Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent tour at The SSE Arena, Belfast on 29/01/23. I would recommend any music fans in Belfast, to catch both Lewis Capaldi and rising star RAYE.
