The brand new festival of Meadowlands at Nottingham has arrived for one day. In the first year of the festival, we can look forward to the headliner, Gerry Cinnamon and additional flag-bearing acts such as The Kooks and The Reytons plus many more.

The event, which began on 3rd June 2022, is running for just one day and is to be packed with interesting new acts, events, and huge crowds. As the festival gears up, I was fortunate enough to catch quite a few shows and snap a few photos.

The Mysterines

The first act I was lucky enough to see first was The Mysterines. Hailing from Liverpool, this band has been around for five years and best known for their album Reeling.

Formed in Liverpool, in 2016 – with members originating from the nearby Wirral area. The angst-ridden, grunge-inspired indie quartet is fronted by vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter Lia Metcalfe, taking influence from acts such as Hole and PJ Harvey

RATS

Next on my shot list are RATS, an up-and-coming, yet again Liverpudlian band, with passion and attitude who sure know how to entertain a crowd

“Classic indie guitar lines, soaring vocals and massive personality” – RADIO X

Black Honey

Black Honey are a British four-piece indie rock band formed in Brighton, England in 2014. The band is composed of lead singer and guitarist Izzy Baxter Phillips, guitarist Chris Ostler, bassist Tommy Taylor, and drummer Alex Woodward, who joined the group after the departure of Tom Dewhurst.

The band released a self-titled debut EP in late 2014 followed by a self-titled debut album in 2018. The album reached number 33 on the UK Albums Chart. Black Honey then released their second album, Written & Directed, in March 2021. The album reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart.

Daisy Brain

Daisy Brain is a songwriter & producer from London, UK. He writes and produces from his Hackney bedroom, combining a love of Britpop and Grunge with an emo melodic streak and lyrics rooted in his Gen-Z experiences.

Emzae

A local singer-songwriter and producer from Derby. With a unique style of intricate, homemade pop. Her acclaimed live solo set, which sees her triggering samples and playing various instruments, has wowed audiences across the UK.

The Reytons

The Reytons are an indie rock band from Doncaster. The quartet are formed of Yorkshire-loving individuals. This includes Lead vocalist Johnny Yerrell who has lived in Conisbrough for the past ten years, drummer Jamie Todd lived in the Cecil Hotel pub where his mother was a landlady for many years and guitarist Joe O’Brien lives in Denaby.

ZUZU

The influential Zuzu Stranack is interrupting the music enterprise with her melodies. ZUZU is a popular British singer, songwriter, and musical artist from Liverpool. Apart from singing, she seems to manoeuvre impeccably. She is known for her fashionable appearance, trendy hair, stature, and tattoos.

The Kooks

The Kooks, are an English indie rock band formed in 2004 in Brighton. The band consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals/rhythm guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar/synthesizer/bass) and Alexis Nunez (drums).

I don’t think they need any more of an introduction.

Dylan John Thomas

Dylan John Thomas is an expert melodic craftsman from Scotland.

His music has rounded up millions on Spotify and makes a sort of folky indie stone, covered with great tunes and fascinating verses.

Gerry Cinnamon

Apparently, Gerry doesn’t like photographers so sorry. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed…

Given how Meadowlands Festival took over Nottingham. I sure do hope that they turn this into an annual festival and return to Nottingham in 2023. Keep an eye out for it.
